The orange coil light on the Transit dash is the glow plug pre heat warning symbol, you should wait for it to extinguish before attempting to fire the engine, it also acts as a warning lamp (when it flashes/stays illuminated when engine running ) to say that you have fault/error codes in the vehicle diagnostic system that need reading. At present Transit 2000- diagnostic errors can only be accurately read by the Ford diagnostic system. Snap-on, Laser etc. systems can read some info but it will not be accurate.
on the bulkhead, nearside. near the dipstick. it should beinside the distributor behind the cap. Remove the distributor cap screws, remove the cap and you will see the coil.

Check the light switch. Resistor coil for dimming may be broken. Dome light and everything else worked on mine but the light switch was broken at the start of the resistor coil.
Coil not getting juice/bad coil(s). Check wires with test light for current.
Hi the flashing coil light doubles as an engine management light the computer has probably got a stored fault code and put the engine into safe mode. Diagnostic check required.
The heater coil is located behind the dash board. You will have to remove the dashboard to get at the heater coil
Engine misfire. Possibly a bad coil or spark plug.
