Higher capacity (higher KW rating) motors take huge starting current to get over the starting torque. To avoid the high inrush of current, star delta starter is used. When started, the motor gets connected in star for few seconds and switches over to Delta and continues to run in delta. In this case motor is designed to run in Delta.

How can you terminate a 3 wire wye motor to a 3 phase delta connection?

To terminate a 3 wire wye motor to a 3 phase delta connection you need a 3 phase transformer to convert from delta to wye. Do not lift the common neutral connections inside the motor and rewire for delta, because the voltages will be wrong.

Can a 3 phase motor be converted into a single phase motor?

A three-phase motor will not start if one or two phases aren't connected. If while running one or two phases "drop out", it will continue to run for awhile, but will eventually burn out, unless connected to a motor saver.

What will happen if you change Phase and neutral connection to single phase motor?

Most likely is going to explode. Put 120 psi on a car tire rated for 35psi and you will have the same effect.AnswerThe circuit's protective device will disconnect the motor from the supply, It will not explode!

When is a motor in star or delta connection?

Star (or wye) connection is where each of the three phases has a fourth conductor, neutral, as its current return. Current flow in this configuration is phase to neutral, which is also grounded back at the distribution center. There will be five total connections, phase A, B, and C, neutral, and (protective earth) ground. Delta connection is where each of the three phases uses the prior phase as its current return. Current flow in this configuration is phase to phase, and there is no neutral, though there is still a ground. There will be four total connections, phase A, B, and C, and (protective earth) ground.

How do you change the connection of single line to 3 phase line of DC motor?

There is no such thing as 3 phase to a DC motor. DC is direct current and is totally different from AC. 3 phase only exists in AC or Alternating Current

Is single phase connection enough for 18KW motor?

Typically, an 18KW motor would be too large to be single phase because then the windings' conductors will be too large inorder to carry such high currents. I,myself, don't think such a motor exist since a cheaper 3phase motor could be used instead.

What is the star delta working principle?

when starting a 3 phase induction motor, first start with star connection, because reduced current is being applied and after start change it to delta connection then. full line current is applied to the motor.

Is 3 phase motor run on 1 phase supply?

No. That would be a single phase motor.

Looking for a connection wiring diagram for 30 HP 3 phase 380 volt motor?

The connection wiring diagram is usually on the inside of the motor's junction box cover. If the motor has three wires at the junction box then these wires are connected to the three incoming supply wires. If there is more than three wires, check the motor's nameplate to see if the motor is a dual voltage motor.
