Gates Belt #6690BR
A 37" x 1/2" belt
It is a standard 5/8" x 97" belt.
Gates 6487MC . Generic # is 13AV1425 .
That is what American Sportworks numbers the Comet belt. The Comet Industries belt is available in the related link.
Gates 9540
Belt# M123281 crosses over to Oregon part #75-297 and the dimensions are 1/2"x142-3/4"
The location of the belt tentioner is slightly different, but the serpentine belt diagram is the same as the Ford Taurus. I have a '95 Mercury Tracer with a 1.9 liter engine, and the pattern is identical with the '98 Ford Taurus. The 1.9 liter engine used with the Tracer, was used in other Ford models, so a quick cross reference with other Ford vehicles may also help if you ever need help with other problems.
check the engine belt and the alternator belt
If the timing belt went as in broke/stopped working, I don't think your engine would start. The timing belt controls the camshafts which actuate the intake and exhaust valves. Neons have an interferance engine if the timing belt broke you possibly have bent valves and the engine will spin over very fast and you will have no compression. That's probably not what you want to hear though. Cross your fingers.
The belt will wear out. If the engine is an Interference engine and the belt breaks you will have serious engine damage. if it is not an interference engine you will be stranded on the road and will pay a towing fee. Replace the belt as listed in the owner's manual.
