Breaking in too early stresses their growing joints and ligaments. You can damage their back causing them to be sway backed at a young age. Their joints can get disfigured, and it can inhibit their future soundness. Short rides (10-15 minutes max) at a walk with minimal small circles are OK at age 2. Normally by the time they are 3 you can lope on them, but small circles should still be avoided, as a horse's bones and stuff don't stop growing until they are 7 or 8. By 5 you can do most anything on them without sacrificing much of their future soundness.

if your horse is too young you are risking the chance of breaking bones... not because you are heavy but there bones havnt fused together yett.

also if you break them in too early and they are still cautious around people this can lead to them being dirty on shying.

you should make sure your horse is happy around people and is atleast 3-4 years old

This should not be started before the animal has reached its second year. The backbone of a horse has not fully developed yet. You can do damage to the horses back and legs if it bears weight too early.

What is the best way to break a horse?

I assume green breaking a horse here. I start by lunging the horse daily and getting that portion of the work out of the way. Round pens work great for this. Then I add a blanket and a strap pad. Same thing.. lots if lunging Next I add a saddle and more pen work. Finally I start adding my weight slowly. After a few days, I try to sit in the saddle. The time goes by so fast. Don't start too early though. Three is plenty early!

Why do horses wear polo wraps?

People place polo wraps on horses in order to protect their legs. Because a horse has no muscles in its lower legs (only bones and tendons), it is very easy for them to damage their legs. Any damage to legs can take a while to heal and if severe enough could actually cripple a horse.Because polo wraps are usually a thick cotton or fleece like material, they protect the horse from knocks that they may cause with their own hooves (like if they step on their back legs while running). Polo wraps must be properly placed on the horse though. If they are wrapped too high or too low on the leg, they can cause damage. If they are wrapped too tight, they can cause damage and if they are wrapped the wrong direction (clockwise), they can put too much pressure on the tendon and damage it!

Typically foxes will not come within striking distance of a horse due to their size. A horse is more than capable of killing a fox that draws too near. however the fox could bite the horse on the legs and do some damage.

Can you get internal bleeding from a light horse kick?

Yes. If you think about it, all a bruise is is minor internal bleeding, or occasionally major. So, you would definitelyget internal bleeding from a light horse kick, although it may not be too major. However, if a hard horse kick can break bones, any kick from a horse is going to do significant damage to your body.
