The human body can repair some damage over time, but continuous heavy usage almost invariably leads to loss of breathing capacity.

First off they are one of the biggest causes of cancer and heart disease today. they have over 500 chemicals in them some of which are rat poison, formaldehyde which is used to embalm dead bodies, and small amounts of cyanide. They are extremely addictive so its not like you can stop whenever you want and quitting is very hard to do. I think that's enough information to answer your question.
