Edmund Hillary and his team members had the following camps: Base Camp, Camp 1, Camp 2, Camp 3 and Camp 4
They set up their base camp in March 1953. The final climb was May 28 and they reached the top at 11:30 am.

By late May Hillary and sherpa Tenzing Norgay were positioned to make a bid for the summit, which they reached at 11:30am local time on 29 May 1953.

It is thought they Hillary and Tenzing were on the summit of Mount Everest for about 15 minutes or so. They took photos, left some gifts for the gods in the snow and had a quick look around to see if they could find any clues that George Mallory had been there in 1924.
