Neandertal
130,000 years ago.
The full name is Homo neandertalensis-meaning "Neandertal Man". Therefore, the nickname is simply Neandertal.
There were never any actual "cavemen", its believed our ancestors were nomads until neandertal and sapiens. The first neandertal found in modern day was in a cave, but they lived in structures like houses and huts rather than caves.
Their bodies were adapted for cold conditions. But the climate was often the same as it is today in Europe and Asia.
They hunted large animals, like horse, bison, mammoth, deer, aurochs (extinct wild cattle), etc.
John K. Cardinal has written: 'A taxonomic reappraisal of Neandertal man' -- subject(s): Neanderthals
The species is named after Neanderthal "Neander valley" in Germany and pronounced in the German fashion. In modern German, the place is spelt Neandertal.
Homo sapiens and Homo neandertal both lived during the latter part of the Paleolithic era.
