One who maintains the doctrine of animism.
Animist religions, which are found all around the world, view the actions of nature as the actions of a large number of specific spirits, each moving in its limited sphere. Worship consists of trying to propitiate or get the co-operation of these spirits, particularly with the assistance of some kind of shaman or priest. Because the natural world is seen as arising from the supernatural, magic, or the attempt to control the natural world by influencing the supernatural world, is an important component of such religions.
