Prozac (fluoxetine) and Celexa (citalopram) have the same mechanism of action. The biggest differences are in pharmacokinetics (how the body handles the drug). Fluoxetine stays in the body for a couple of weeks after the medication has been discontinued. Citalopram is cleared more rapidly. Fluoxetine has much more drug/drug interactions which might become a problem when using certain other drugs at the same time.
Effexor works on blocking both serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake (increasing the levels of serotonin and norepinephrine, leading to alleviation of symptoms). Prozac only works on blocking serotonin reuptake. There are differences in the side effect profiles (Effexor may lead to increased heart-rate, increase blood pressure, etc while Prozac may lead to sexual dysfunction), and differences in uses (effexor can be used for depression and anxiety, while Prozac can be used for depression and various other diseases such as bulemia).
No. Citalopram is the generic version of the brand name medication, Celexa.
Ask a nurse, or doctor,
It's twice the amount ! 40mg is twice 30mg !
i wouldn't worry too much about weaning off of Prozac...it's acclimating to effexor (and weaning off of it) that's tough.that said, effexor worked wonderfully for me, pulling me out of a very deep hole.it's just that it has side effects that can be pretty rough.
It is the same drug, Effexor XR is the brand name drug made by Wyeth (now owned by Pfizer). Effexor XR is Venlafaxine XR however a generic drug would just say Venlafaxine rather than Effexor.
Prozac is intended to treat depression, but is also used to relieve hot flashes, therefore it is not suppose to cause what it is intended to treat. That being said, it is not likely.
I would never take Effexor again. To wean off of it, you should ask your dr. to lower the dose. I heard that taking prozac for a few weeks can help get off of effexor. Doctors should use ECT treatments, that reset your brain sometimes, because that actually works. Very few anti-depressants work, maybe prozac. I guess it depends on the individual person what works.
#1 : If your doctor prescribes it. I am prescribed 10mg Abilify and 20mg Prozac for possible bi-polar disorder. The Prozac gets rid of the depression, and the Abilify gets rid of the Mania: they meet in the middle, or that's how my dr. explained it to me.
Yes, there is no interaction between acai and Effexor (or any other antidepressant)
Yes; there is no known interaction between venlafaxine (Effexor) and diazepam (Valium).
Most herbs can be taken with medications as long as not taken together at least six hours difference best to take herbs and not take Prozac because of all the side effects to Prozac.

Does Implanon react/interfere with any drugs? Not to the same extent that the Pill does. For example, you can take antibiotics without lowering the efficiency of the implant
