Metric (SI for International System in French) was developed to replace archaic measures such as those of the "english system" or those used in France before the revolution. For example, Canada once used the Imperial gallon for gasoline; a gallon, but larger than the US gallon.
There are no common units between these systems of measurement, and converting from one to another leads to all kinds of problems. A metric unit is the same everywhere - it's an international system.
The Metric System is used in over 95 percent of the world. But in the United States, Liberia, and Berma, the English system is used. Neither is more accurate, but only 3 countries use the English system.
The English system is more ancient, and it has it's roots from the then more common measurements. Hands to describe height feet yards etc. also for weight, they stemmed from stones ( 14 lbs ) ounces, pounds, hundredweight, tons etc.
The metric system is a modern system, with all measurements based on the decimal system (everything based on 10 or multiples of).
The METRIC system is based on increments of the number 10 in both volume and linear measurements. The units of linear measure are: Kilometer - 1,000; hectometer - 100; decimeter - 10; base - 1; decimeter - .1; centimeter - .01; millimeter - .001.
METRIC volume is measured in kilograms, miligrams, grams, etc., which are all based on the number 10, also.
The ENGLISH system of linear measurement is based on inches, feet, yards; 12 inches in a foot, 3 feet in a yard, 5,280 feet in a mile, etc.
In ENGLISH weight the measurements are based in ounces, pounds, etc., which are: 16 ounces in a pound; 2000 pounds in a ton, etc.
ENGLISH volume is based on cups, pints, quarts, gallons, etc. One cup = 8 ounces; 1 pint = 2 cups or 16 ounces; 1 quart = 4 cups or 32 ounces; 1 gallon = 16 cups or 128 ounces, etc.

The difference between the metric system (International System of Units) and the English system (Imperial System) is that they use different units of measurement. Metric measurement includes units such metres (US: meters), litres (US: liters), grams etc. while the Imperial system uses units such as feet, pints, pounds etc. Due to the metric system being based on powers of ten, it is arguably easier to deal with compared to the Imperial system, hence why it is the standard for most countries.
The English system is based on yards, feet, inches and fractions (not decimals) and derives ultimately from the length of the arm, foot, etc of an English king. The English (now called the imperial or sometimes US) system does not have a consistent set of names for its units, nor does it have simple conversion factors from one unit to another.
The Metric system is based on meters and decimal equivalents of a meter like centimeter (0.01 meter) and initially was based on an estimate of the circumference of the Earth. (One meter was a specified fraction of that distance). It uses a standard set of prefixes to define larger and smaller amounts of each standard unit; for example "kilo" in front of a unit always means "1000", so a kilogram (weight/mass) is 1000 grams, a kilometer (distance) is 1000 meters, and so on.
They are different standards. The English units are older and on the way of being out of date.
Nothing, the English use metric. (Although some of the more elderly UK residents still prefer to use imperial units).
If that is supposed to be English units,
Metric units are used based on the power of 10.
English units aren't based on anything consistently.
The difference is that an Imperial gallon exists, whereas a 'metric' gallon doesn't.
What? Speak proper english, please. The main difference between amino acids and what?
A tea strainer is used to catch tea leaves when pouring. There isn't a difference between an English tea strainer and a regular one, they are the same thing.
Categorize is the Americanised spelling of the English word categorise. They are the same thing, but in different dialects of English. Categorize is US English, while categorise is International English.
English mustard is full of horseradish, has a smooth texture and is very hot. French mustard, meanwhile, is textured and usually milder and contain vinegar.
The english system is the metric system. There is no difference.
An english ruler uses inches and feet, and a metric ruler uses centimeters, millimeters, decimeters and meters.
In most of the world, there is no difference, because the metric system is the customary system. In a few isolated hold-out corners of the world, such as the USA, the English system is still customary. In those places, the main difference between the metric system and their customary system is that theircustomary system is a lot harder for their people to learn than the metric system would be.
There is no difference they are the same thingAnswerSI is the current version of the metric system. For example, the centimetre, the calorie, and the litre are examples of metric units, but they are not SI units.
Colloquial English is informal and conversational, often using slang and contractions, while formal English is more structured and appropriate for professional or academic settings. Colloquial English may include regional dialects and casual language, while formal English adheres to grammar rules and avoids using slang.
Cubic meter is a measurement of volume, and metric ton is a measurement of weight.
There are no difference between them they are the same thing.
A square meter (m2) is a derived unit of measure of surface area in the metric system. A yard is a traditional English unit of measure of distance.
metric vs inch measurement
Oh, yes. A US ton is 2000 pounds. A metric ton is 2204.6 pounds.
The liter is a metric unit of capacity (volume). The meter is the fundamental unit of length in the metric system.
The customary units are ones we use everyday. metric units usually have the word meter on it. my teacher taught me meter metric no meter no metric.
