I know the difference between the two Buddha's but forgive me, for I do not remember the name of the type of Buddhism that uses each. (I believe one began with an M and the other a T) First off, there was a divide among the people if Buddha was a god or just a teacher. Those who thought he was a god went their own separate way to practice their religion based on Buddha (Siddartha Gautama) as a god. While the other group practiced his teachings as a great teacher and not a god. Therefore, the meditating Buddha represents the Buddhists who believed he was a teacher and Lord Buddha was a god.

A buddha realizes he/she is no-self. But these are only 2 fingers on opposite sides of a circle pointing the center. In reality, it is not Self, nor no-self, nor both, nor neither. ~ Eric Putkonen
