What is the difference between England and the UK?

England is a country that is part of the United Kingdom (UK). The UK consists of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
The U.K is a nation made of 4 countries. These countries are England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

These four countries are not the equivalent of US states, for example they compete individually in sports.

However, despite all these countries having their own Parliament the English parliament is the central one and the prime minister that sits in it is the prime minister of the whole UK.
