Producer - a person responsible for the financial and administrative aspects of a stage, film, television, or radio production.
Director - the person responsible for the interpretive aspects of a stage, film, or television production.
As you can see, the director is the one who tells the actors how to perform their scenes and sing their songs. The producer(impresario) is in charge of financing the production and performing administrative tasks.
