Answer 1

A Christian is someone who believes in Jesus as the one who gave up His life for them, and that He is the Son of God and they choose to accept His sacrificial act for their own life to be made right before God... then living with the teachings of the Bible as their guide and God as the one they look to for answers.

"Judeo-Christian" is a term that refers generally to the morality or view of life that would be found common to both Jewish tradition and Christians*. It comes down to a belief in God and therefore living a life that honors Him. Moral stances on things included in the 10 Commandments might be a good base to look at; not lying, not cheating on your wife / husband, etc.

  • Christianity is extremely connected to Judaism - though at times people have wrongly put the two in opposition. Jesus was Jewish, so no christian should ever have issue with Judaism. The "Old Testament of the Bible" is basically Jewish scriptures, while the "New Testament" would be what is seen as the fulfillment or continuation of what was started in the Old Testament - and how God included the rest of the world in the Jewish Covenant.

Answer 2

There is no such thing as a Judeo-Christian. "Judeo-Christian Ethics" is used by many Christians as an adjective to give the longevity of the Jewish experience to buttress much of their religious ideology which they may or may not share with Jews. Judaism came into existence between 4000 and 3200 years ago with the Divine Revelations to Abraham and Moses and Christianity came into existence between 2000 and 1700 years ago when the Apostles of Jesus recognized his Divinity and Sacrifice for Humanity.

Since the term Judeo-Christian was created intentionally by Christians to extend their morality back through Judaism, it does not have any differences with Christianity.

Some of the actual shared beliefs of Judaism and Christianity include the idea that the directives of how to live in the world already exist because of God and that a person should come into compliance with those directives. This leads to a vast number of smaller points:

  • The Law is divinely given and therefore people must bend to fit Divine precepts (as opposed to laws being malleable to human will).
  • Faith is given freely on account of love and hope.
  • The only or best way to know the truths of this world is through Divine Revelation. (It depends on the particular strain of Judaism or Christianity as to whether science is wholly excluded.)
  • Every man and woman must contribute to the growth and flourishing of the society in a spiritual, helpful, and honest way.
  • The greatest leader among men is the High Rabbi or High Priest, for he best knows the Divine.
  • People should be governed by trusted authorities (as opposed to anarchy or corrupt authorities)
  • War is undesirable, but may be necessary to protect value and virtue
  • Hope and Conviction are prudent for a successful and meaningful life.

judaism is only about the jewish religion and judeo-christianity is about both jewish and christian religions

Answer 2 (Additional information)

From Islamic perspective:

  • Judaism as a religion started by start of God Torah revelation to prophet Moses (or Musa); peace be upon him; around year 1500 BC.
  • It should be differentiated between Jews as a race and Jews as believers in Judaism. Jews as a race are of course dated back to many thousands of years ago as the Arabs as a race.
  • Prophet Abraham; peace be upon him; was not calling for Judaism. He (as prophet Noah) called his people to abandon Idol worship and worship God; the Creator; as the one and only one God with no partner and no associate. This is the very sense of Islam in its universal sense as full submission to Allah (or God in English and same God worshiped in Judaism and Christianity) as the one and only one God with no partner, no son, no father, no companion, no associate, and no equivalence.
  • Jesus (or Eissa) ; peace be upon him; called the Jews to the same message of prophets Abraham (or Ibrahim) and Moses; peace be upon them all.

Jews believe that man is judged primarily by his actions, Chrisians focus on faith. Jews believe that only the sinner can repent and atone for sin. Christians believe that Jesus' crucifiction atones for all. Jews believe in one God, indivisible. Christians believe in a trinitarian godhead, somehow both three and one. Jews believe that belief in an incarnate god is idolatry. Christians believe that Jesus is the incarnation of one of the three persons of the godhead.

Christians believe that Jesus was the Messiah, that the only road to salvation is through belief in Jesus, and that Jesus is the incarnation of one of the three persons of the divine Trinity that is God. Jews don't particularly care who Jesus was, but hold that God judges people primarily for what they have done, and that God is one and totally immaterial. The latter implies that the very concept of incarnation is itself idolatrous.
