MS Word is a word processor. MS Excel is a spreadsheet. They are two different types of applications.
They are both software packages. Microsoft "Word" is a Word Processor programme for TYPING letters, documents etc.
Microsoft "Excel" is a spreadsheet programme. Spreadsheets are laid out in a graph format and their main usage is for auto calculations of columns of numbers.
As taken from Wikipedia. A spreadsheet is a computer application that simulates a paper worksheet. It displays multiple cells that together make up a grid consisting of rows and columns, each cell containing either alphanumeric text or numeric values. A spreadsheet cell may alternatively contain a formula that defines how the contents of that cell is to be calculated from the contents of any other cell (or combination of cells) each time any cell is updated. Spreadsheets are frequently used for financial information because of their ability to re-calculate the entire sheet automatically after a change to a single cell is made. A word processor (more formally known as document preparation system) is a computer application used for the production (including composition, editing, formatting, and possibly printing) of any sort of printable material.
The term document is normally associated with word processing file, but it can also be used to refer to a spreadsheet file. So a document can be a general term to refer to a file from many applications like word processing, spreadsheets, desktop publishing, graphics, Computer Aided Design and others.
It is hard to draw a comparison because they are designed for very different tasks.
Word is designed to write letters and mainly focuses around text; which requires no calculation and doesn't readily change, it isn't really a mass data storage program.
Excel is structured with referenced cells to allow rapid calculations and automation, it can be used for storing data in a contiguous fashion; you could store a list of customers happily in both excel and word; but you couldn't create a trend of customer locations from that data in word.
Excel is much happier working with data that require calculations, changes rapidly requiring further entries or edits, requires statistical analysis or evaluation.
Microsoft Word is a word processor. Linux is a family of operating systems.
Microsoft Word 2007 is a single program - a word-processor. OpenOffice is a suite of programsincorporating a word-processor, spreadsheet and database programs (and others).
Like in a word processor or some other applications, a page break in a spreadsheet determines where a new page starts to print when the spreadsheet is sent to a printer.Like in a word processor or some other applications, a page break in a spreadsheet determines where a new page starts to print when the spreadsheet is sent to a printer.Like in a word processor or some other applications, a page break in a spreadsheet determines where a new page starts to print when the spreadsheet is sent to a printer.Like in a word processor or some other applications, a page break in a spreadsheet determines where a new page starts to print when the spreadsheet is sent to a printer.Like in a word processor or some other applications, a page break in a spreadsheet determines where a new page starts to print when the spreadsheet is sent to a printer.Like in a word processor or some other applications, a page break in a spreadsheet determines where a new page starts to print when the spreadsheet is sent to a printer.Like in a word processor or some other applications, a page break in a spreadsheet determines where a new page starts to print when the spreadsheet is sent to a printer.Like in a word processor or some other applications, a page break in a spreadsheet determines where a new page starts to print when the spreadsheet is sent to a printer.Like in a word processor or some other applications, a page break in a spreadsheet determines where a new page starts to print when the spreadsheet is sent to a printer.Like in a word processor or some other applications, a page break in a spreadsheet determines where a new page starts to print when the spreadsheet is sent to a printer.Like in a word processor or some other applications, a page break in a spreadsheet determines where a new page starts to print when the spreadsheet is sent to a printer.
Microsoft Word is a word processor. Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet application.
Spreadsheet
It does not include Word and Excel, but it has its own word processor and its own spreadsheet.
They are both capable of typing and laying out text. However a word processor can do far more things than a typewriter, so in that way there is no comparison between the two.
Open Office has a free software suite including word processor, spreadsheet, presentations etc. They are compatible with Microsoft and most other office suites.
A spreadsheet could in theory be used to write letters, but it is a job best done with a word processor, so a spreadsheet would not be used to write letters.
You cannot convert from Microsoft Word to Microsoft Excel as such. They are two different kinds of applications, one being a word processor and the other being a spreadsheet. You can copy and paste things from one to the other. Usually this would be things in tables, as a spreadsheet is based on tables and a word processor has the capability of dealing with tables. It is also possible to link them, doing a copy and instead of pasting, doing a paste link. You cannot convert from Microsoft Word to Microsoft Excel as such. Just about the same as in Microsift Office: Spreadsheet, Word processor, Database, Graphics, Presentation...
iWork is made up of three applications: * Pages - the word processor * Numbers - the spreadsheet * Keynote - for presentations
