What is the difference between a valid email address and an in-valid email address?

A "valid" email address is one that it's possible to send email to. An invalid one is one that it's not possible to send email to.
Note that there's no guarantee that the email will actually be read; it could be filtered out as spam, for example, or anyone with even a small degree of programming savvy can set up an "email black hole" that happily accepts (and then immediately discards) anything sent to it.
For that reason, some sites go a step further, and put something in the body of the email that requires that you actually do something with it... you might have to click a link in the email to "activate" an account, for example, ensuring that you can't just put in a completely fake address (you can, of course, still use a secondary email account that you use only for this specific purpose, and otherwise ignore).
