Can you catch cancer in space?

Yes. If, for example, you sexual intercourse in space and you contracted Human Papilloma Virus, this can develop into Cervical Cancer. If you were exposed to too much sunlight, again, you could develop Skin Cancer, however, what your exposed skin would be doing in Space is more of a concern! In general, cancers such as Prostate cancer, occur when the natural change between old cells and new cells in the human body gets out of balance and this can happen at any time or anywhere. I presume the original question was asking if Space can protect you but it cannot as Cancer is not an airborn virus or bacteria so it would make no difference.

If cancer is mitosis gone wild then wouldn't when someone is getting old and their cells are dying they should get cancer but like just enough to regenerate the cells in the body?

True, one of the characteristics of cancer cells is uncontrolled cell division. But when a cell gets old it goes into senescence and no longer divides. This occurs throughout the lifetime, not just when you are old. Humans do not die because their cells have died, they die from complications such as organ failure and diseases. Once the heart stops pumping blood around the body the cells will die.

How do cancer cells grow and divide?

Cancer cells divide excessively and invade other tissues. They do not have density dependence or anchorage dependence. Simply put, regular cells grow in an even layer while cancer cells grow tightly and on top of each other - an unnatural mass.
