The dog is in the canine group which is related to the wolf which is and the cat is in the feline group which is in the same genus to lions, bobcats and all other cats.

• The thing you can tell most about house animals is the cat has an arched back like an umbrella and a dogs is flat or slightly curved like a U.
• Cats have upright ears, whereas some dogs have floppy ears.
• And mainly cats meow, purr, chirp and hiss and dogs can bark, whine, growl and howl.
• Some cats are more independent than dogs, but many more love human company. Just because all cats are perceived to be independent, it doesn't mean that the owner can leave home for a few days and just leave out enough food and water.
• Cats are crepuscular, which means they are most active during low-light hours such as sunrise and sunset.
• Dogs are usually most active during the day.
• In the wild, dogs usually run down their prey over a distance, whereas cats have short limbs and powerful muscles, so can only pounce and sprint short distances.
• Cats have retractable claws. Dogs do not.
• A cat's claws grow in layers, much like an onion. A cat's claws are always a set length, and the old layers are shed through scratching.
• A dog's claws grow lengthwise, like a human's.
• Dogs need someone to let them out to use the bathroom.
• Cats use litter trays, as they need to bury their "leavings".
• Dogs, and some cats, are always there for you.
• Cats land on there feet while dogs do not.
• Dogs are very affectionate towards their trainers/owners.
• You have to clean dogs regularly and daily walks are a must.
