What is the difference between grain alcohol and rubbing alcohol?

Difference In Grain and Rubbing AlcoholIf memory serves me correctly, grain alcohol is derived from the fermentation of various grains, with the most common being from corn, and it's safe to consume. On the other hand, rubbing alcohol contains isopropyl alcohol (which is a chemically made alcohol), and usually contains additional water and sometimes glycerine, and isn't intended to be substituted for either grain or wood alcohol. To drink it would make one very ill and may even be lethal, or cause blindness. In other words grain alcohol is not equal to rubbing alcohol. period.steph says no.

What is the limiting reactant of 6.5g of C3H8O and 12.3g of O2?

The reaction between Isopropyl alcohol and oxygen is 2 C3H8O + 9 O2 equals 6 CO2 + 8 H2O. So for every mole of isopropyl alcohol, 4.5 moles of oxygen are consumed. 6.5 grams of C3H8O is .108 moles and 12.3 grams of O2 is .384 moles. This means that O2 is the limiting reactant as it needs .486 moles of O2 to finish.

What is the difference between rubbing alcohol and isopropyl alcohol?

Rubbing alcohol, is a liquid prepared and used primarily for application. It is prepared from a special denatured alcohol solution and contains 97.5-100% by volume of pure, concentrated ethonal(ethyl alcohol) or isopropyl alcohol (isopropanol). Individual manufacturers can use their own "formulation standards" in which the ethanol content usually ranges from 70-99% In the UK the equivalent skin preparation is surgical spirit which is always based on an ethyl alcohol-methyl alcohol mixture.

Does alcohol cause Cancer?

Epidemiological studies suggested an association between isopropyl alcohol and paranasal sinus cancer; however, subsequent analysis suggests that the "strong-acid" process used to manufacture isopropyl alcohol may be responsible for these cancers [ACGIH 1991]. The International Agency for Research on Cancer has concluded that the evidence for the carcinogenicity of this process is adequate but that the evidence for isopropyl alcohol itself is inadequate [IARC 1987]. http://www.osha.gov/SLTC/healthguidelines/isopropylalcohol/recognition.html

Difference between methanol and ethanol?

Methanol is CH3OH, ethanol is CH3CH2OH. Both are alcohols, ethanol has one carbon more (or a CH2 group more) and is less polar than methanol. Also ethanol has higher boiling point than methanol.
