At the begining of internet, the domain extension ( .com, .org, .gov, .biz, .net, etc.) told the web surfer what type of site he was on:
- .com => commercial
- .org => non-profit organization
- .gov => government related
- .biz => buisness
- .net => network
- .us => USA
- .ca => Canada
- .co.UK => UK
- .fr => France
- etc.
However, now, you can have pretty much any domain extension, for almost any price, and it will not guide you to what type of site you are on.
