Communism has always been practiced in the form of a totalitarian government which controls all aspects of a society, owns everything, employs everybody, and claims to use this power to create a just society which is fair to everyone, although in practice the result has been great injustice and unfairness, which is why most communist societies have now been overthrown. Anarchy means a society which has no government, in which everybody does what they choose. Communism and anarchy would seem to be virtually opposite types of societies. However, in a purely theoretical sense, one of the original communist theorists, Engels, did predict that a successful communist society would eventually have no need of a government, leading to what he described as the "withering away of the state" so that in its mature form, communism becomes a form of anarchism. That is merely a theory and has never been observed to happen in the real world.
