Diesel is a mixture of carbon chains that typically contain between 8 and 21 carbon atoms and may be produced by fractional distillation of crude oil between 200 °C (392 °F) and 350 °C (662 °F)

Kerosene is composed of carbon chains that typically contain between 6 and 16 carbon atoms and may be produced by fractional distillation of crude oil between 150 °C and 275 °C,

By comparison you can see that kerosene is a mixture of organic molecules that tend to be smaller (and consequently more volatile) than diesel oil.

The uses of the two fuels is pretty much based on the impact of those properties. Kerosene is less viscous at low temperatures than diesel and is more volatile.

What is the difference between refineries and petrochemical plants?

A refinery processes crude oil into different components such as kerosene, gasoline, diesel, LPG (light petroleum gases), etc. A petrochemical plant is a chemical plant that will use a petroleum based feedstock, such as LPG or other products from a petroleum refinery to produce a chemical product, such as plastics for example.

What are substances that are extracted from crude oil without being changed?

Crude Oil is the mixture of difference substances, substances are seprated from crude oil through the process of Fractional Distillation. the substances extracted from crude oil are as follow : Fuel Gas (LPG) Petrol Naptha (used for plastics) Kerosene Diesel Fuel Oil (used to Fuel Ships) Lubricating Oil Bitumen (used for building roads)

What are the fractions that are separated from the crude oil?

The number of carbon atoms determine the products available in crude oil. Name Number of Carbon Atoms Refinery Gas 3 or 4 Petrol 7 to 9 Naphtha 6 to 11 Kerosene 11 to 18 Diesel Oil 11 to 18 Lubricating Oil 18 to 25 Fuel Oil 20 to 27 Greases and Wax 25 to 30 Bitumen above 35

What are the refined kerosene?

Yes, kerosene is one of the resources collected from refining oil.

Are kerosene and oil soluble?

No. Kerosene is an organic compound. and water is a non-organic compound. (kerosene : non-polar Water : polar). As water is a polar solvent kerosene is not soluble in it. but kerosene is soluble in ethyl alcohol which is a non-polar solvent.

Is diesel is type of oil?

Diesel just like gasoline and kerosene are a refinement of crude oil. Diesel is known as 'diesel oil' or 'heavy oil' and is the heaviest distillate of crude oil. Petrol is a spirit and is the lightest distillate.

Can you burn diesel in a kerosene heater?

Diesel and Kerosene are extremely similar. In fact Kerosene is often called #1 Fuel Oil and Diesel is called #2 Fuel Oil.Diesel should burn fine in a kerosene heater, unless you are trying to light it in very cold weather.
