Under a fixed rate, the rate does not change during the duration. An adjustable rate is one that can be changed. For instance, if I have 3% interest on something, it can be changed to, say, 3.4% under an adjustable rate.

What is the difference between a Halifax mortgage and a fixed rate morgtage?

A Halifax mortgage allows you to choose either a fixed or adjustable mortgage while a fixed rate mortgage only allows a certain interest rate to be available during the life of the loan.

Are adjustable interest rate loans good to have right now?

They are not good now and have never been sound financial advice. With fixed rates being so low there is very little difference right now between a fixed and an adjustable rate which makes them even worse than usual.

What is the difference between fixed rate and adjustable rate mortgage?

A fixed rate mortgage has its interest rate fixed (ie. stays the same) over the life of the loan. An adjustable rate mortgage (also called variable rate mortgage in Australia) has an interest rate that can be changed at any time by the lender. For example, if central bank interest rates go up then a variable rate loan will usually go up too. If the interest rate is fixed, then the lender can't change the rate even if their funding costs rise.

What is the meaning of adjustable rate mortgages?

Adjustable rate mortgages are the less-stable version of a home mortgage. As opposed to a fixed-rate home mortgage, an adjustable rate home mortgage is not confined to the single interest rate that is adhered to by a fixed interest mortgage. For example, a fixed interest mortgage charges the same amount of interest regardless of how the prime interest rate for housing fluctuates. In contrast, an adjustable rate mortgage can fluctuate with market conditions, ultimately costing the borrower more.

How does a fixed rate mortgage differ from an adjustable rate mortgage?

The interest rate on a fixed rate mortgage does not change over the life of the loan. An adjustable rate mortgage interest rate may change up or down depending on what the interest rates are, at the contracted time the loan is reviewed.

What are the types of interest?

When it comes to Finance, the two types of interest if fixed interest and adjustable interest. Fixed interest stays the same. For example if you are paying a fixed interest then the amount you pay in interest will be consistent. However if the terms of your contract include adjustable interest then the interest can change. For instance once month you could pay 1.5 percent interest on your loan, the next month you can pay 1.8 percent interest. A good example of adjustable interest is an Adjustable Interest Mortgage. p.s. You don't want this kind of a load and should stay away from it. Make sure your interest is fixed. Also, make sure your lender calculates your loan using the Amortization formula, NOT the Simple Interest formula. Make sure your loan is Amortized because this way you usually end up paying a considerable less amount in the long run. You should also make sure your loan does NOT have a Pre-Payment Penalty Clause. If you want to pay your loan off early and your contract does consist this clause then you will be charged a fee for this.
