I, too, asked this question as an American unacquainted with its exact distinction, pronunciation and country of origin. The website above also discusses the origin of the word gammon.
For the British, gammon means smoked or cured ham. Hence, gammon and spinach means ham and spinach to those using English as spoken in Britain.
The hind legSpecifically - it becomes Gammon due to how it's cooked. Ham is also from the hind leg, but is not curred.Curing is the process which turns a ham (rear leg inc. joint) in to a gammon.

Any meat from a pig is pork , but we just call pork (the thick meat we have with roast dinner) pork too. Then we have pork sausages ... made from pig , pork. Ham is pork , i mean made from pig , but its not the same as PORK pork , the two meats are made from differant parts of the hog. Pork is from the belly , ham is from the... acttually you don't wanna know.
