series 3 gearboxes have synchromesh on 1st and 2nd
Addendum: Synchromesh meaning you don't have to double-clutch them like the earlier gearboxes. they are also a stronger transmission.
The most major difference in the series 2 is the addition of the 'barrel roll' sides, new engines and some other changes to the body. A lot of changes to the Land rover series 1s and 2s happened during production and not between models. You may find more at www.wkerry.co.uk. The automatic and manual gearboxes in series 1 and 2 Discovery both use dextron 3. Discovery TD5 uses MTF94 fluid and can only get it from Land Rover dealers or specialists. I believe there is not a compatible alternative.
MTF stands for Manual Transmisson Fluid and the 94 is the standard or classification. This is the recommended oil for Land Rover R380 gearboxes.
The Rover 800 series was first introduced by the Austin Rover group. The Rover 800 series was co-developed by the Honda car manufacturer in Oxford, UK.
A satellite goes around a planet. A probe goes "somewhere". A rover moves about on the surface of a planet.
