What is the difference between realism and liberalism?
Classical liberalism emphasizes limited government intervention in individuals' lives and the economy, prioritizing individual freedom and private property rights. Modern liberalism, also known as progressivism, supports government intervention to address social and economic inequalities, promoting social welfare programs and regulations to protect workers and consumers.
The difference between liberalism and mercantilism is economics driving politics v.s. politics driving economics. The liberals view of economics and politics as discrete, and very different. Mercantilists grant primacy through politics within the exclusion of all else. That's the real difference--ideological, not economical.

Liberalism focuses on the idea of freedom and equality to benefit all people. Absolutism concentrates all power and privilege into the hands of just a few or, more commonly, just the monarch.
• Populism arose in the late 19th century while progressivism arose in the beginning of the 20th century. • Populism came from the farmers and the poor sections of the society from down south while progressivism came from middle classes, who were fed up with the corruption of the rich and the appeasement of the poor by the government. • While progressivism focused on changing the political system itself, populism focused upon reforming the economic system.

This is a slightly silly question or possibly one that hasn't been expressed very clearly. Is it liberal nationalism versus extreme nationalism? Or is it liberalism versus extreme nationalism?C.Glasnost
