Piebald is black splotches, skewbald is brown splotches.
A skewbald horse is brown and white, and a piebald is black and white.
the correct term is PIEBALD. piebald is a black and white pony, and if you didnt already know SKEWBALD is brown and white.
Brown and White is a skewbald Black and White is a Piebald
A piebald horse is a horse with irregular black patches on a gray coat (which may appear white). There are two other colorings to distinguish a piebald from: Paint horses and Skewbald. A Skewbald horse has similar patches, but they are brown. A Paint horse is the opposite - they seem to have white patches on a solid coat.
Skewbald is a specific pattern of colored and white patches on a Paint or Pinto horse.
The acronym BSPA stands for a variety of things such as the "British Speedway Promotions Association." In addition, it can also stand for "British Skewbald and Piebald Association."
I will assume that you mean skewbald. This is a pinto horse (paint coat pattern) that has white combined with a color other than black. The Black and White combination is called a Piebald i.e. 'the pie' from National Velvet (book not the movie.) So Skewbald horses are white with chestnut/sorrel, bay, buckskin or palomino (or any other genetic variation there of.) If a piebald horse goes gray it becomes a skewbald then a white horse if it looses all color. Fading black and dark seal brown would be most commonly called piebald. These terms are most often heard in Europe an in the US Paints and pintos are specifically by color and marking (overo, tobiano ect.) Best I have on pinto patterns, I'm an appy person.
The terms skewbald and piebald are not really used anymore. They were ways of describing pinto color patterns. But the breeds that allow and promote color are APHA (Paints), AQHA (Quarter Horses), Pinto registry, Spotted Walking Horse, Spotted American Saddle Horse.
I can only assume that it means the same in every other aspect as it does with horses. So, yeah, it means black and white splodges. Skewbald means the same but brown and white if you ever wandered...
Skewbalds are horses with brown coats broken with large patches of white. Be careful not to confuse it with the Piebald; they have white coats broken by small patches of black.
