The difference between "pop psychology" and scientific psychology is very opinionated. Formally trained psychologists that "pop" is different to "POPULAR"; so cheaper or self-help, or group-work treatment usually means a loss of income, etc. for most professional psychologists. In some psychological approaches, psychologists use the scientifically statistical methods to investigate thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Most "pop" psychology yet has to be completed in these statistical methods. For example, psychologists used to not care about feelings. However the PLACEBO EFFECT is a statistically proven psychological and medical treatment therapy, as every good parent knows. Most professional psychologists will deny that unproven, unresearched and poorly recognized treatments are worthy.
