Regardless of whether mind is contained in the brain or exists beyond these physical boundaries, it is evident that it is something quite immense. The spark of an eternal fire or the wave of a vast ocean are apt metaphors to describe it. The cosmic nature of mind has been described for centuries prior to Kant and Plato, Descartes, Einstein, Bohr, and Socrates offered their musings. Mahatma Ghandi told us, " You can chain me, you can torture me, you can even destroy this body, but you will never imprison my mind." If mind is indestructible, and vast beyond our perception, then do the semantics of its origins really even matter? It is natural for the mind to want to know itself, and this era of human development marks the ability for consciousness to know it is conscious. This alone is an evolutionary leap.

The brain and the mind are not the same , but they are inextricably combined. The brain is the physical organ contained in the bony box called the cranium or skull. It is the centre of the nervous system made up of billions of cells that interconnect and that process information by way of electrochemical impulses.

The Mind on the other hand, is not a physical entity as is the brain, but is the result of the composite working of the brain and its avenues to the outside world - the organs of senses: sight, smell, hearing, taste and feeling.

When these organs pick up their various and complex bits of raw data from what is happening in the individual's world, they send them to the brain for processing. This composite work results in what we call the mind. The characteristics of the mind are indeed mind-boggling, manifesting themselves in what we call ideas, thoughts, beliefs, attitudes, opinions, temperaments, personality types, motivations, actions, insight, creativity and emotions.

____________

This question will be debated for centuries more, and possibly for as long as we exist as a species. Many argue that for the same basic reasons as outlined above, 'brain' and 'mind' are in fact the very same thing. There is no mind in the absence of a functioning brain, and every functioning brain has 'mind'. Until the issues involved are understood at a much deeper level, it is a matter for individuals to decide for themselves, based on science, philosophy, faith and personal conviction.

The basic idea of the separability of the body from the mind/soul has its modern origin in what is called Cartesian Dualism, after its champion, the philosopher Rene Descartes.

The brain is the control center for all the functions carried on by the body.

The mind is the computer that receives information from many sources, assimilates that information into a reasonable format and determines what action should be taken or not taken in response to that information and then it is stored in the memory for future reference.

Mind and brain are really close related, it is very difficult to separate the two. Because it is seems that the mind functions in the brain. BUt we have to understand that Mind and brain are two things quite different, because Mind is immaterial thing, that you cannot touch or see it. while the brain is material thing that is studied and touch.
