The Germans knew that the Allies were going to invade at some time. The difficulty was in determining WHERE they were going to make their landing. The coastline of France was very large which made it difficult to defend. Through use of deception by the Allies, the German high command was convinced that the best location for the landing was Pas-de-Calias, which was the best port city that was shortest distance from England. A few years earlier, England launched a raiding force that landed in Dieppe, which was defeated. The concept then was that the landing force had to immediately capture a port city so that supplies could be brought in to support the attacking troops. However, Normandy was no where near a city port. They landed in a wide-open beach and they brought their own docks. Then their plan was to spread out and capture the port cities at Cherbourg and others along the coast. This did not fit into the German's theory that the Allies would have to land very close to a port city.

Because the Germans were led to believe that the invasion was taking place elsewhere, so their forces were spread thin at Normandy. Also, the German defenses relied on armored divisions held in reserve, who were to be sent into the battle where needed. The Germans were so sure that the landing would occure at Pas de Calias, that the needed armored units were not released. Before they could be sent, Hitler had to approve the order. Another reason for the success was due to the failure of the landings at Dieppe a few years earlier. This failure taught the Allies how to plan and prepare and support an invasion. They planned every aspect of the invasion from air cover, naval support, logistical support and even the special equipment needed to punch through the "Atlantic Wall" defenses.

One thought-Some cars can develop air locks in the cooling sytem causing weird temperature reading and poor heater performance, this will happen anfter maintenance is done on the system and the coolant is drained and replaced, the older Chrysler 2.2 engines were terrible for it, to fix it on the chysler 2.2's you simply needed to jack the nose of the car way up and run the car for a while with the heater cranked and the radiator cap off to let all the air bubbles out ( raising the nose of the up makes the radiator the highest point of the cooling system and the air bubbles will always rise to the highest point).Another possibilty is that the headgasket has a small leak and is allowing combustion gases to get into the cooling system passages, I hope its just an air lock because replacing a headgasket around Christmas sucks. Hope its an easy fix, have a merry Christmas.
