Adderall is the racemic mixture of 4 amphetamine salts. The amphetamine salts are derivatives of dextroamphetamine and levoamphetamine (2 Analogues of the Amphetamine molecule). It is a stimulant used in people with ADHD, narcolepsy, and sometimes treatment resistant depression. Adderall has a calming effect on those who have ADHD so it will allow them to focus, get their tasks completed, and manage their ADHD. In order for a person with ADHD to receive therapeutic benefits, it is generally taken at low doses. If an individual with ADHD were to take a higher dose of the drug, they would experience effects of speed.

For those who do not have ADHD that so choose to take Adderall, they will have effects similar to speed, because that is what Adderall is, pharmaceutical grade speed. It's effects are euphoria, alertness, metacognition, increased confidence, compulsion to achieve some sort of task (whether it be homework, cleaning, dancing, etc.). This is why it is sometimes sought out by students who wish to improve their grades, especially during final examinations at colleges and univeristies.

I used to take Adderall XR for my ADHD, but then it started making me nervous, so I was switched to Dexedrine Spansules (which is pure dextroamphetamine). As a college student, I have been approached numerous times with offers to buy my prescription. Even though the money offered for my prescription is a very nice chunk of change, I do not sell it. Instead I just deny any allegations of me having a prescription for speed or ADHD at all.
