On the East Coast (as would be true in the rest of the USA) an EDT day would still be 24 hours, with the exception of the first day (25 hours) and the last day (23 hours). Interestingly daylight savings time (which was introduced by the Federal Govt. during WWII) although being a Federal Standard, is subject to the local State Govt. approval for use in that State. The only decliners to this (at the present time) are Arizona and Hawaii. As far as the exact amount of applied days, that changes from time to time depending on how many votes politicians believe it will gain them. Currently, I believe, DST runs from sometime in April until sometime in October.
The Eastern time zone in the U. S., most of the Eastern time zone in Canada, and part of the Eastern time zone in the Caribbean observe Daylight Saving Time for 34 weeks per year, which is close to eight months per year. It begins on the second Sunday of March at 2 AM EST and ends at 2 AM EDT on the first Sunday of November.
Queensland is the only part of Australia's Eastern Standard Time that does not observe Daylight Saving Time. In Australia it lasts 26 weeks, exactly half of the year. It begins at 2 AM EST on the first Sunday of October and ends at 3 AM EDT (2 AM EST) on the first Sunday of April.
