Space junk, in others words is trash floating around our Earth caught in a circular orbit. Space junk has caused problems and I will happily list a few for the answer. For one, if it is biggest enough sometimes it will fall back to the Earth and unlike most things, not burn up in the atmosphere and come crashing to Earth which itself poses dangers. Another is moving space junk can become problems to space stations. Damage, severe or little can be caused by junk ramming into the station. More problems it poses by space shuttles can, sometimes, hit space junk which you can figure is a problem.
More or less Space Junk in other words is pollution in space.

∙ 13y agoNot a lot. Most of the stuff that does enter earth's magnetic field (gravity) will burn up in the atmosphere. Besides, the junk will most likely just drift away to either some other planet or some other galaxy.

Collisions between satellites and "space junk" are relatively rare, but as more and more things are sent up, there will be more and more collisions, which will lead to more and more "space junk". Two satellites collided in orbit in the fall of 2008, scattering a couple of tons of space shrapnel through the same orbits that the Space Shuttles and ISS occupy.
Pretty soon, we're going to need to set up some sort of space recycling center; collect the junk in space and use it as raw material for new space factories.

∙ 9y agoIf it strikes a satellite it can cause severe damage, possibly even disabling it. If it strikes a manned orbiting facility it could cause loss of the air and kill the occupants.

Everything is attracted to everything else by gravity. So, over time, space junk will attract other space junk and join with it. This larger amount of space junk could potentially come closer and closer to Earth (as the force of gravity on it is now greater, and with a greater mass it becomes more difficult to keep it in orbit). Eventually it might crash into the Earth, conditional on not burning up in the atmosphere. The orbit of space junk could bring it in contact with, destroy and make space junk of, commuication satellites, probes, telescopes etc.

For now, no because we don't have the technology to do it yet I estimate about 10 to 15 years.
