A very long time ago (prior to the 16th century) many of these foreign brides were from Catholic nations like France or Spain, however after the protestant reformation British royals only married women from protestant nations like Germany or those in Scandinavia ( i.e. Denmark, Norway). Only recently has it been acceptable for them to marry British born women, for example the Queen's father married a Scottish woman.

Because of this the Windsor family is an eclectic mix of English, Scottish, German, and Danish, however as time passes and they continue to marry British born women their foreign ancestry will become more remote and they'll become more thoroughly British.
