The liver has so many functions that it would have to be a very comprehensive study, documenting all the different mechanisms that developed over time, and how that gave the humans a selective advantage against pathogens and metabolisation of different foods. Talking about the regenerative capacity of the liver, I believe malaria and some other pathogens played an important role in selecting out human with a regenerative capacity in their liver.

Human beings are not the first species to have livers. Livers have been around for a long time, in many different species.

But humans have always had livers. Livers are an essential part of our bodies; we cannot live without them.

Some people inflict damage upon their own livers. Alcohol is bad for the liver, and if you drink a lot of it, you can develop a serious liver disease called cirrhosis of the liver, which can be fatal.

There are also infections which attack the liver, which are called hepatitis A, B, and C. These are also very dangerous and can be fatal. Vaccinations exist for hepatitis.
