It covers the two states of West Australia and South Australia, running from the Eastern Goldfields region to the Gawler Ranges in the West.

It is over 430 miles wide,; to it's West lies the Western Australia Mallee shrub ecoregion,, the Little Sandy Desert to the North-west, the Gibson Desert and the Central Ranges xeric shrublands to the North, the Tirari and Sturt Stony deserts to the East, and it is seperated from the Southern seaboard by the Nullaboor Plain.

Map co-ordinates are 29 degrees 09'08' S 129 degrees 15' 35' E.
