I'm guessing that your looking for a yearly salary and maybe hourly for an HVAC Mechanic?

It first of all depends on where you live, in larger metro areas you will have higher salaries as with most jobs. If you live in a more rural area then you probably won't make as much.

Then it depends on exactly what you do, HVAC is a very broad field. You can do Residential, Refrigeration (grocery store), Transport, Commercial, Industrial, Marine, and more. From there you can do install or service work or possibly both. Then it depends on experience, education and the local economy.

I live in Seattle, WA We have a very strong Union here (local 32) and because of the training we make a very high salary compared to other areas. If your just starting out as a helper you can probably expect to see $12 to $15hr . Experienced Journeyman will make in the $40 to $65 range per hour. You can get to this fairly quickly in about 5 years. If you work even a little overtime you can easily make $85K to $100K + a year. The benefits are the best part for me we have 3 pensions and incredible health care, and I started right out of high school and I will be able to retire in my early 50's.

Asking what the hourly rate for HVAC service is a loaded question. Many things go into the calculations to determine what the proper charge should be. Overhead in an HVAC business can be very high for a company that is established and can provide a wide variety of products and services, to dirt cheap for a small, limited company, or someone working out of their truck. Technician pay must be figured in. Many technicians are paid by the hour, depending on their experience, education, and expertice. A growing trend is performance pay, where a technician is paid based upon what is accomplished versus how long it took to do it. Of course profit is calculated into the mix. The average HVAC company only makes about 5% net profit. When an HVAC company gets into double digits they are considered to be in the top 10% of the industry.

Some individuals that are doing HVAC work on their own may only be working for "long wages" not really figuring anything in for overhead or growth. Often this type of "company" is not properly licensed, not insured, and may be hard to get in contact with if there are issues after the initial service. One may be able to hire an individual like this for as low as $25 or $30 per hour.

Other established, legitimate companies have chosen to operate by the hour. Typically they will charge roughly 3 times their average technician's wage including benefits. These service fees will typically rage from $60 to $100 per hour.
