The United Methodist Church had over 11 million members when they merged with the Evangelical United Bretheran in 1968. By 2010, there are now 7.75 million members left and the closing of over 7,000 parishes nationwide. The Presbyterian Church, USA and the Episcopal Church have also lost milions of adherents during the same period. The United Methodist Church, like the Presbyterians, have opened up their worship services to praise bands and multimedia devices to lure younger people to the church, and those who have not identified with any denomination. The jury is still out whether or not this is succeeding.

This number has been steadily declining in recent years, from 78 percent in 2007 to 71 percent in 2018.
