What is the first sign of herpes and what it looks like on your body?

Herpes is a viral infection caused by the herpes simplex viruses type 1 (HSV-1: Oral) or type 2 (HSV-2: Genital).

When symptoms occur, they typically appear as one or more blisters on or around the genitals, rectum or mouth. The blisters break and leave painful sores that may take two to four weeks to heal.

Herpes symptoms can vary from person to person, some people get very mild symptoms that can be mistaken for other things while others get the full classic break out symptoms.

It typically starts with some itching, burning and or tingling symptoms around the site of infection. With an initial break out of genital herpes herpes can make you feel like you're getting the flu, along with itching, burning and or tinging symptoms, with genital herpes it can cause trouble with or pain full urination, and swollen genitals. Some people with herpes have also repored getting body aches like leg pains or back aches when a break out happens.

Herpes usually looks like a raised blister or open paper cut like sore. It commonly occurs on the mouth in the form of cold sores or fever blisters, or on the genitals.
