Your 1980 yz50 has no spark what do you look for?

You should probably look for a spark plug if it doesnt have one..

What would cause a Yamaha YZ50 to idle but die as soon as you rev it up?

YZ50A dirty carb. it also might be on chokecheck the carbi and they are not mento idel because its a 2 stroke, try letting it warm up tooI had the same problem with my bike you just have to let it warm up then it should be fine.

What would cause a 1980 YZ50 to run better on choke?

Answer YZ50 CHOKECARBY MIXTURE SCREW SET TOO LEANCracked intake boot, dirty carb [inside].Cracked boot is most commonly found in these older bikes. An air leak between the carb and the combustion chamber of any kind will produce what you describe as it is being starved for fuel and flood with air. A simple way to confirm or disprove this is to spray a solution on the boot to see the effect of the solution entering the combustion chamber with the leaking air. A safe solution would be water but I always use starting fluid and small controlled burst and listen for the engine to rev.

What would cause a Yamaha yz50 not to start?

if you have spark and not starting still check fuel lines and tank for debris or blockege in the fuell line, or the air filter may be too dirty fro air to sift thru try blowing they air cleaner out then replace and try startiing take the bell housing of the carb and scrub and spry with brake clean and replace . if no spark then try replaceing plug if that does not work trace back to where wire is.

Why does a 1980 yz50 keep fouling plugs it has new piston and rings?

on 2 strokes you have to be carefull when starting. if you give it gas when you kick it, and it doesnt start all the oil from the gas will build up on the plug and the tip will be black with build up on it, and if its ran at low rpm the same thing can happen. its just not running hard enough to burn the oil off of the plug I HAD A YZ 50 AS A KID AND IT WAS AN AWESOME BIKE, ESPECIALLY LOOKING BACK THROUGH THE YEARS AFTER ALL THE OTHER BIKES I HAVE HAD, VERY POWERFUL. THE YZ 50 WAS THE MOST TEMPERMENTAL OF ALL MOTOCROSS BIKES I HAVE OWNED (YZ, KX, RM). YOU HAVE TO START IT AND REALLY LET IT WARM UP OR YOU WILL FOUL PLUGS EASILY IN THAT BIKE. DON'T GIVE IT MUCH GAS WHEN MARMING UP, AND LET IS RUN FOR A FEW MINUTES BEFORE RIDING. GREAT BIKE.
