It really has no function. Since it can rupture when you do ordinary everyday things and you spend the major part of your life without it, we know it's not for protection. If unbroken some see it as a sign that the girl has not been penetrated but that is not a function nature would bother with.
The hymen has no function at all, let alone multiple functions. The hymen is nothing more than tissue left over from development in the womb.
The hymen has no purpose once you are born. In the womb the vaginal canal is supposed to be closed and that is why the hymen was there. The closer you get to birth the more it disappears and many are born without one.The hymen has no known function like many things in the human body such as the appendix.
Here is an article on the hymen: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hymen

Not at all. Most of the time it's not a choice you make. Some are born without ones and often it breaks by itself. The hymen is a remnant from when you were in the womb and the vaginal canal was supposed to be closed. It faded as you were closer to birth and as you were born it has no purpose.
The hymen doesn't serve any function at all, it's just left over tissue from within the womb. While developing there was no hole where the vagina would be, this was covered up by skin and when the hole for the vaginal opening was formed the left over tissue covering this becomes the hymen.

Males do not have a hymen. Theoretically, you can say that the male's foreskin is their hymen equivalent, as it serves the same purpose for the penis as a hymen does for the vagina.
There are no exercises to break the hymen. The hymen cannot be broken but can be torn if penetration is rough or forced, simply exercising is not going to tear the hymen.
The hymen does not disappear , it can only break.
