Older cars used a distributor to control the firing of each spark plug. The proper setting was mechanically set. The newer cars use a computer to do this. The computer uses a crankshaft sensor to know its position and a cam shaft sensor to know which piston gets the firing pulse. The failure of either one will result in the engine not starting.
It is mounted on the throttle shaft usually on the other side from the throttle cables. It has a three wire connector plugged into it.
Crank shaft sensor need replaced or cam shaft sensor
behind the crank shaft pulley. remove pulley and install new one make sure to replace it in the exact same spot it was before of you will tear up your new sensor

I had the same problem check the crank shaft position sensor i payed maybe 25 bucks for one and its not all that hard to change with the right tools.
You can prime the oil pump on an 85 Buick Regal by removing the distributor and inserting a priming rod onto the oil pump shaft. It can then be turned by hand or with a drill to distribute oil throughout the engine.

There are many reasons your check engine light could come on. If your motor died while driving you should check the rank shaft sensor module, alternator and catalytic converter.
Crank shaft has rolled fillets, block is tapped for oil drain line from the turbo.
find the neutral safety switch which is commonly located somewhere on the interior of the car near the steering shaft or on the transmission
