A fusible link is a special wire that acts like a fuse by burning up when too much electrical current flows through it (as may be caused by a short).
Look for a funny-looking wire at the positive cable.
Positive, hot, or + red cable.
replace temperature gauge
no it would overheat
After removing the positive and negative cable, follow the negative cable to where it's grounded to the wheel well. Remove the end of the cable with the wrench. Track the positive cable to its connection on the driver's side of the engine and remove it with the wrench. Now, attach the new positive cable first and install the negative cable last and start the car to ensure that the connections are working on your Ford Escort.

Just follow the positive cable on the battery all the way to the starter. It is on the passenger side of the engine.
Check for bad connections or fusable link
You hook the positive cable to the red connection just inside of the air cleaner box. You hook the negative cable to the nut on the left strut tower.
First try disconnecting the positive battery cable for 5 minutes and reconnect. This works on mine.
