The official Mormon website details the belief that your life has a 'divine purpose' and that God has a tremendous plan, beyond human comprehension, for every individual (His 'children'). Your physical time on earth allows you to develop a personality, to learn and grow better into the image of God, and to recognise and use your free will to choose between good and evil. Mormons believe that your life experience will ultimately lead to greater joy and peace if you follow as His plan intended.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" church) states that their purpose is to "assist in [God's] work to bring to pass the salvation and exaltation of His children." (See Church Handbook of Instructions Vol. 2 section 2.2)

This purpose is fulfilled in three ways (also called the "threefold mission of the Church):

1.) spread the Gospel and gather Israel through missionary work

2.) supporting and encouraging members in their faith and obedience to God

3.) enabling salvation of the deceased through vicarious Temple ordinances

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) claims to be the restoration of true Christianity. They believe that the New Testament Christian Church was lost shortly after the death of the Apostles. Unlike Protestant Christians, they believe that Jesus Christ needed to physically restore the true doctrine and authority, rather than men remodeling or reforming existing Christian ideas.

While individual Mormons certainly have many personal goals, the end goal of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" church) is to know God better by becoming more like Him.

Mormons believe that their personal relationship with God is strengthened when they seek to follow His teachings, and that they may continue to develop and grow closer to God in the afterlife.
