What does the Speed Governor in a car do?

I know of no car today that has a governor. Cars are computer controlled and have either a rev limiter or a fuel shut off or both. The purpose is to limit the speed of the car, and/or the revolutions that the engine can turn.

Does 2003 gmc sierra have a top speed governor?

yes it does but the engine does not shut off it jus stays at 100mph and 4000 rpm

What is the top speed of a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS?

The 2010 Camaro SS is electronically limited to 155mph. Attempting to accelerate beyond that will cause the engine computer to shut off the fuel supply. The L99 and LS3 engines used in the automatic and manual transmission versions of this car (respectively) are already known entities, and it should be relatively simple for an experienced performance tuner to adjust or bypass this limit. In that context, the actual top speed achievable by these vehicles is not yet known. Also, the high-speed aerodynamics of the fifth-generation Camaro have not yet been explored by the general public. It is possible that the Camaro will exhibit unfavorable dynamics (e.g. front-end lift) at such high speeds, which would make going faster impractical without aerodynamic modifications. I just read in Popular Mechanics that the author of the article had his stock SS camaro tuned so that the limiter was disabled. In the salt flats, he recorded a top speed of 174 mph.

Does a 1991 Chevy Camaro have a fuel shut off switch?

No

Why governor is not using in the petrol engine?

Your question is confusing. Are you asking why the governor is not working or are you asking why is there not a governor on a petrol engine. Modern fuel injected engines are governed by the ECU which will shut off the fuel supply when the vehicle reaches a predetermined speed. Some older vehicle with a carburetor had a mechanical governor but most had no governor at all.

Top speed Lincoln mark 8 with out a governor?

148 is governed shut off i would not recommend taking the governor off as it was designed to protect the car, if you remove it you must upgrade the driveshaft because it will damage the entire drivetrain from the inertia set by the spinning of the driveshaft at such a high speed

How do you disable the governor on your 95 Bonneville ssei?

If you mean a top speed governor, it is part of the computer program, it shuts off the fuel when a predetermined speed is reached. A custom chip will eliminate the fuel shut off. CAUTION: GM speed limits its cars based on the speed rating of the OEM tires, and exceeding the speed rating of your tires may result in tire failure, a high speed crash, bodily injury, death, ect.

How do you remove the Governor on a 1992 Chevy Camaro RS?

Whoia, whoa, whoa. Why not answer the question? The 'speed limiter' (to avoid more BS arguements) IS in the computer but reads the VSS from the speedo. On my 86 and my 89, I simply put a switch in series with the VSS and open the connection when I want to calibrate my speedometer at higher speeds. If the switch is left open too long then you will get a computer error for a VSS failure. Once the switch is reset, the error should clear. mp It may have a rev limiter or fuel shut off, but it has no governor. It will be computer controlled. I just want to say that the first answer is incorrect.. i personally own a 3rd gen camaro rs.. and there is deffinitly no rev limiter.. and no fuel cut off.. the car is governed at 115mph. THis is for a stock 1989 rs 305tbi camaro His question was, "How do you remove the Governor on 92 RS Camaro?" I stated it had no governor. I stand behind that answer. This car does not have a governor. The speed is controlled by the computer by way of input from the speed sensor. The computer then limits the speed by way of either a rev limiter or a fuel shut off. How else do you think the speed is regulated? The point is that there is no governor as I stated. You say the speed is governed, implying it has a governor. It does not have a governor! A governor in automobiule terms is a totally different device than a computer. The way around this is to connect an on/off switch to the speed sensor wire going to the ECU. By breaking the circuit of the speed sensor to the ECU, the computer will no longer regulate speed. The check engine light will come on and the cruise will not work when this is done. Turning the switch to the on position will restore input to the computer from the sensor and the cruise will work again. The check engine light will go out after a couple of driving cycles. It's not a governer it is computer controlled. It just backs off at 115. I thought about changing this but honestly I don't need to go more than 115 on the highway. It is kind of a shame though seeing as I still had half a pedal to put to the floor. Well if its computer controlled to shut off at 115 then its a governer. Yes you can bypass this by simply pulling the ecu fuse and let the car reach its designed limit. Your service engine light will come on and your fuel milage will go to crap after about 15 minutes of doing this, so be sure and put the fuse back in after the joy ride. The governor is controlled by the ecu which is the computer brain. The only way to remove it is to reprogram it. This is very easy. Just buy you a chip for your exact year, make, model, and engine size. After you get it just install it into your engine ecu.

How do you shut off the speed limiter on your 2001 Camaro I have an LS1 motor with a 6 speed manual and at 130mph it kicks in and won't let me go any faster?

call summit racing and order a high performance computer programmer for your car to reprogram the computer.

Is there a governor on a 2007 Jeep Wrangler?

Yes, but it is part of the engine computer programming. The computer will shut off fuel and spark to limit engine rpm or max vehicle speed.
