Hi ,I have found valueable information as regards the weights etc ,, taken from a Volkswagen Manual ,,it suggests an unladen weight of 1495 kgs / with a vehicle capacity weight of 755 kgs ,and a gross vehicle weight of 2250 kgs ,,
The weight of a 1979 Chevy Silverado camper special with a 400 tyranny is about 3,342 lbs. In the years 1973-1979 the truck weight did not change.
Depends on what the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of the wrecker is. If it's over 26,000 lbs, then yes. If it will be over 26,000 lbs. with a vehicle in tow, some states will require you to have one.
About 5,000 lbs. The VW Bus can weigh at least 2,700 lbs unladen with an ability to carry 2,000 lbs. With a camper interior, the bus weighs around 3,200 lbs, and with a passenger-type interior (with seats and windows) the bus weighs around 3,000.
Depends on the model. If it doesn't have a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of more than 26,000 lbs., then no. In 1979, Chevrolet and GMC manufactured trucks in all weight classes, including Class 7 and 8 (which do require a CDL).

It comes in handy to know the weight of a vehicle. The 1979 2500 Chevy pickup has a curb weight of 6,236 pounds.
I have a 1979 gmc camper special with a fairly heavy nine and a half foot camper on it. I get 10 miles to the gallon maybe 11 with a tail wind.
Manufacturer's GVW for this vehicle ranges from 31,000 - 35,000. What you're actually allowed to gross will be dependent on wheelbase.
The 1979 Chevrolet C 20 camper special as a maximum towing capacity rating of 7500 pounds. The manufacturer recommended not exceeding 7500 pounds.
