This will depend upon how good of physical condition the elderly woman is in. If she is a regular swimmer, runner, or otherwise is in excellent physical condition, 55 beats per minutes is probably fine. However, if she is not an active athlete, this may be a little low and could indicate an underlying problem that needs to be addressed by her doctor.

The average human resting heart rate should fall between 60 and 100 beats per minute. In trained athletes it can be as low as 50 or even 45 beats per minute, but for an average person 60-100 is the norm. Resting heart rate below 60 beats per minute is called bradycardia while resting heart rate above 100 is called tachycardia. Both can be symptoms of something amiss with the heart if they are more than transient (occur once in a while only). Please note that by resting heart rate, I mean heart rate measured after a person has stopped exercising for at least 20 minutes.

Depends on what she's doing. Peak heart rate should be about 170-180, so 120-130 should be a good work out rate. For resting heart rate the lower the better. Should be below 60.

What is a normal pulse rate for a woman of 68 years?

When should you check for a pulse on an elderly woman?

You should check the pulse at anytime there is a question, or health concern. It is good to check the pulse regularly, along with blood pressure, at least once a day.Have the person lay down and rest or set quietly for 5 to 10 minutes; you want to take a resting heart rate. (A resting HR indicates overall heart health.)Take the pulse at the neck or wrist; count the number of beats for 15 seconds and multiply by four, or count for 30 seconds and double. (You are looking for the beats per minute.)A resting heart rate can be 40-100 beats per minute (BPM). The rate varies by the person, based on their health and fitness level. It also varies some based on age.The average rate for a elderly women, depending on one's idea of elderly, 55-65 years, the average is 74-77, and for 66 years and older, the average rate is 73-76. If the heart rate is over 84-85 beats per minute, retake the heart rate to verify that the count is not an error. If the rate is indeed over 85; contact a doctor for advice. A heart rate of 85 indicated that the heart muscle is in poor condition. But it does not mean that the person is in danger. If the heart rate is over 100, on a regular base, *with no apparent reason, one should be seen by a doctor or go to urgent care.*There are many reasons for a temporary raise in HR; stress, anxiety, anger, fear; eating certain foods; drinking stimulants… A high heart rate does not necessarily mean that the person is in immediate danger.
