In 1896 the original flag of Utah was adopted by the state legislature. The flag contains the seal of Utah against a blue background. The seal includes the following symbols within: an American eagle, beehive with the word industry above it, Sego lily, draped American Flag, and the years 1847 and 1896. The American eagle represents protection in peace and war, the beehive is the symbol of industry, the lily stands for peace, the American flag represents the state's support of the nation, In 1847 a Mormon pioneer arrived in Salt Lake City and in 1896 was when Utah became the 45th state. The Sons and Daughters of the Pioneers of Utah commissioned a flag to be made for the battleship Utah in 1912; this flag depicted the seal in the center of the flag with gold line circling it and behind the seal was a blue background. The flag that was at first meant for the battleship Utah was then adopted by the state legislature in 1913 as the new and current Utah state flag.
The flag of Utah is mostly blue with a beehive in the center.
