The voyage of Columbus marked the beginning of the Spanish exploitation of the Western Hemisphere. Although Columbus actually learned very little about the Western Hemisphere, he learned enough to interest other Europeans, which set off waves of invasions.

∙ 12y agohe wasn't looking for America, he stumbled across it while he was looking for another trade route to Asia .But he thought it was the land that Marco Polo found in the 13th century, but then Columbus thought that it was sometime soon that someone else would find a passage way to the cities of Asia.

What was Christopher Columbus after?
Columbus landed in Palos, Spain March 15, 1493, but he will sail again in Sept. 1493 with 17 ships and 2,000 colonist. When he reaches Hispaniola he found that the crew he left was killed by the Native Americans, so he built a new settlement called Isabella. He, then, sailed on to look for a route to Asia. Later he will return to Isabella and find the colonist sick, dead, and fighting with the Native Americans. He returned to Spain in1496 and his 3rd voyage will begin in 1498 which resulted in the discovery of the South American mainland. His last great trip was in 1502-04 along the south side of the Gulf of Mexico. He died in Valladolid, Spain and was buried in a monastery near Seville, but in 1536 his remains were removed to Santo Domingo in Hispaniola. In 1796 it is said that they were moved again to Havana, Cuba, but in1899 brought back to Spain and in 1902 reburied in Seville.
