It is important because it has big contributions on the Philippine Independence. The eight rays of the sun symbolizes the eight provinces: Manila, Cavite, Bulacan, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Laguna, and Batangas.

In the Philippine history, these eight provinces initiated to declare a state of war when the first revolt was initiated in the 1896; a revolution of independence from Spain, and placed under martial law by the colonial government.

The revolution which was initiated by the eight provinces is a sign of valor that brings the country into it's freedom from other races who has this desire to dominate the Philippines.

If we do not have these eight provinces, we do not have this sun in the Philippine flag with eight rays, and most probably this country would probably still dominated by foreign people.
